The municipality of Timaná, founded by Pedro De Añazco, is located in the south of Huila, one of the most important coffee regions in Colombia.  The town is known as 'Villa de la Gaitana' - Gaitana was a female native who led the Timaná Tribe against the Spanish conquistadors in 16th century.

Colombia is the second-largest producer of coffee in the world and the largest producer of washed Arabica. Annually, Colombia exports approximately 12.5 million bags and as a nation consumes about 2 million bags; about half of its exports come to the United States.
